 Are fishing licenses required in the City of McPherson Waterways?

Yes, the State of Kansas fishing requirements pertain to all City of McPherson Waterways. All Kansas residents aged 16 through 74 must have a valid fishing license, and non-residents 16 and older must have one.

A permit is required for everyone 16 years of age and above.

Is a trout permit required?

Yes, during trout season, November 1 - April 15, a trout permit and a valid fishing license are required.

The trout permit is required for all anglers aged 16 and older.  Youth aged 15 and under may fish without a trout permit; however, the daily limit is 2.  With a permit, the daily limit is 5.

 Where can I get a trout permit?

Trout permits are available anywhere fishing licenses are sold. 

In McPherson, fishing licenses may be purchased at Walmart.  Licenses and permits are also available on the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism website.

The City of McPherson does not sell trout permits.

What is the trout limit?

The daily limit is five trout.  The possession limit is 15 trout.

The daily limit for youth under 15 is two trout, and with a trout permit, it is five.

Can I fish for trout during the off-season?

Yes, there may still be trout in Lakeside Park waterway after April 15.  A trout permit is not required to fish during the off-season.  The trout limits remain the same.
