About the shelter
The McPherson Animal Shelter was built in 2006 and opened its doors to the public on January 1, 2007. The building is able to house 16 dogs at one time. We are funded by the City of McPherson and welcome donations of food, toys and treats throughout the year.
Adoption: The McPherson Animal Shelter adopts out surrendered or unclaimed pets after 6 days and once the animals are deemed safe. There is an application process. Read more about adopting from the Animal Shelter and providing a 'fur'ever home. There are fees involved in the adoption process and these fees are evaluated every year and approved by the McPherson City Commission.
Volunteers: The Animal Shelter welcomes and adores our community volunteers. This is a very rewarding experience and can include everything from walking dogs to assisting in training. Volunteers are a vital part of the animal's journey from being sheltered to becoming adopted. Become a volunteer.
Surrender: We only take in dogs that are found running at large in the city limits; we also take surrender dogs that live in the city limits of McPherson. We keep them for 6 days to give the owner a chance to claim his/her pet. If they are not claimed after 6 days, we put them up for adoption. Fill out the owner surrender form here.
