McPherson Community Building

Built in 1928 for approximately $13,000, the McPherson Community Building has been an important gathering place for community events. Historically, the auditorium served as a venue for community theatre, talent shows, and movies. The gymnasium was the home court to the McPherson Globe Refiners basketball team, the first-ever Olympic gold medal champions. Community dinners, carnivals, fairs, and fundraisers occurred along the way.

Through the years, it has seen numerous basketball games, theatre productions, carnivals, community dinners, parties, and more. A staple of the community’s lively downtown atmosphere, the temperature-controlled venue is your destination for wedding receptions or banquets, but also serves smaller parties or organizations with three meeting rooms.  A full gymnasium with multi-sport equipment offers options for all kinds of athletic events or wide-open space to meet multiple needs. 

In 2018, the facility was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the country’s official list of historically significant properties.
