Job Descriptions

  1. Fire Chief

    Under the Direction of the Mayor and City Commission, the Fire Chief is an exempt position under FLSA which performs administrative duties.

  2. Deputy Fire Chief

    The Deputy Fire Chief supervises and assumes command of subordinate personnel at emergency activities, including fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials responses.

  3. Division Chief of Training and Operations

    The Division Chief of Training and Operations supervises and assumes command of subordinate personnel at emergency activities, and also assists the Fire Chief in the daily management of the fire department.

  4. Division Chief of Inspections and Maintenance

    The Division Chief of Inspections and Maintenance supervises and assumes command of subordinate personnel at emergency activities, and oversees the inspection of all city buildings as well as the maintenance of the department building and vehicles

  5. Captain

    Under the supervision of the Division Chief, the Fire Captain is responsible for supervising the safe operation and transportation of men and equipment to emergencies and other non-emergency locations.

  6. Lieutenant

    Under the supervision of the Fire Captain, the Lieutenant is responsible for the safe operation and transportation of crews and equipment to emergencies and other non-emergency locations, and the proper maintenance of the fire apparatus.

  7. Firefighter

    Under the supervision of the Fire Captain and Lieutenant, the firefighter is responsible for protecting the lives and property of the citizens of McPherson.

  8. Executive Assistant

    Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Executive Assistant works closely with the Fire Chief, to perform clerical, accounting, and bookkeeping duties necessary for the Fire Departments success.

  9. Paid Call Firefighter

    Paid Call Firefighter is a volunteer fire fighting position, which occupies a vital role in the fire department by providing support and back up to full-time firefighters.
